This Edible Insectary Mix is absolutely stunning!

It provides a spring through fall display of flowers that your resident beneficials can count on. Self-sowing biennials and annuals compliment backbone perennials, and provide seedheads and winter scratch for birds.

Broadcast or sow in rows 14” apart, thin to a final spacing of 12”. Manage plant density by harvesting, weeding and thinning volunteers each spring and throughout the season.

Insectary Mix contains:

Fennel, Cilantro, Garden Sorrel, Alexanders, Chervil, Garland Chrysanthemum, Parsley, Wild Garden Chicories, Arugula, Belle Isle Cress, Vivid Choi Mix, Flashback Calendula, Explorers Amaranth, Hopi Sunflowers, Aurora Orach, Jimi’s Poppies, and Korean Mint.

An “insectary” is a place for rearing insects, be it outdoors in the field, or a commercial facility or even an empty sidewalk! An “insectary species” is a plant that provides food, pollen, or shelter that enhances fecundity for insects, especially beneficial kinds. This mix is intended as a perennial backbone for a hedge or border that will serve as seasonal windbreak and long term oasis for bug ranching and bird feeding. Add other ornamental perennials and annuals to give allies a year-round wild garden.
