Growing tips we’ve learned over the years:
Sow seeds in fall before your first frost & again in the spring before your last frost. Or, if you’re going garden stir crazy during the wintertime and snow is covering your garden, you can actually sow poppy seeds onto the snow and when it melts and the seeds come in contact with the soil, they will germinate at the correct time.
If you live in a warm climate or missed the window for winter temperatures you can cold treat (stratify) your seeds anytime by creating a false winter indoors. Place seeds on a slightly moist (not wet) paper towel and cover with another layer of paper towel then place into a sealed plastic container and pop seeds into the refrigerator for a few days, then transfer to the freezer for a few more days, then back into the refrigerator for a few more before planting outside in a sunny location.
