Build resistance and stronger plants with this time-tested botanical.
Equisetum, also known as Horsetail, is a multifunctional, nutrient-accumulating “living fossil” that supports overall plant health while offering natural protection against fungal diseases and pests. That’s why it’s a key ingredient in our plant care tonics!
Rich in silica, Horsetail has the unique ability to strengthen cell walls—leading to sturdier stems and thicker leaves. It also helps build resistance to common fungal issues like powdery mildew and black spot, while deterring pests like aphids and mealybugs. You can check out our guide to testing pests with our tonics here.
How does silica work?
Silica plays a vital role in helping plants tolerate stress. It aids in correcting nutrient imbalances by redistributing minerals within leaf tissue and preventing toxic compounds from accumulating in the root system. It also strengthens plant structure by bonding with cellulose to create additional layers just beneath the leaf cuticle. This extra layer reduces water loss, balances hydration and nutrient uptake, and provides added defense against infection.
This ancient herb dates back to the Jurassic period—its ancestors once grew as towering trees nearly 100 feet tall! Can you imagine?
We only use a products on our houseplants and garden that we would use on ourselves. Horsetail is no exception. Rich in silica, magnesium, and vital minerals, it’s been used for centuries in human wellness too. Known to strengthen connective tissues and bones, Horsetail has also been used to stimulate scalp circulation and encourage stronger, thicker, healthier hair.
Yes—we’ve even added a few drops of Sacred Soil to our shampoo. Since our tonics are made with 100% organic botanicals, including Horsetail, fresh Aloe Vera, Neem, Comfrey, Jojoba, Chamomile, Yarrow, Kelp, and Nettle. Thanks to its naturally high saponin content, Sacred Soil creates a gentle, plant-powered foam that cleanses and hydrates at the same time.
And don’t get us started on Sacred Leaf showers! While giving our plants a nutrient-rich spray that hydrates and protects, we often treat ourselves too. A botanical mist filled with goodness? Yes, please!
Hope this inspires you to enjoy more sacred plant rituals with your green friends too.
Happy growing!
