Dive into the underwater world of kelp and discover the unique benefits it offers our houseplants and urban gardens.
Kelp is a biostimulant, not a synthetic fertilizer. That means it works with the natural biology of your plants to promote their overall wellbeing including healthy root development, enhanced growth, and stronger resistance to stress and pathogens.
Plant hormones aka phyto-hormones
How does it work? Unlike synthetic fertilizers that are formulated to force rapid top growth, kelp contains natural plant growth hormones, or phyto-hormones, that act as powerful biostimulants. We like to think of biostimulants as a support network for plants activating the natural biology instead of forcing an action. Biostimulants encourage nutrient uptake when needed for a natural and sustainable growth process.
Adding kelp to your houseplant or garden naturally stimulates soil microbes to slowly release nutrients to the root system when and where they need it most. This process promotes robust root development, enhances growth, and activates resistance to stress and pathogens.

Ancient Ocean Wisdom
Around 23 million years ago, ancient kelp forests began growing around the planet's in shallow oceans. Fast forward to today and kelp now covers the vast majority of our world's marine coastlines making it one of the most precious, dynamic and productive ecosystems on earth!
*Fun fact: Kelp is a super fast growing algae and giant kelp can grow up to two feet in a single day!
Just like terrestrial forests full of trees, kelp forests often contain a variety of species that grow and coexist in harmony together. While this marine algae is often referred to as seaweed, the word "kelp" specifically indicates marine seaweed.
Kelp benefits for humans and planet
Not only is kelp wonderfully beneficial for our houseplant and gardens, it can be highly nourishing to our own bodies too.
Kelp is considered a 'superfood' for its wealth of health benefits. It's high in essential vitamins and minerals, is considered a natural probiotic that supports gut health and is high in antioxidants. Algin (extracted from kelp) is a natural emulsifying agent that can be found in everyday products like shampoo, toothpaste, facial creams, lotions, and even ice cream!
Kelp is also a regenerative natural resource that sequesters excess carbon and nitrogen from the atmosphere and creates a less acidic environment in the surrounding waters. With their extensive roots and expansive growth, kelp forests are precious sanctuaries for sea life, many of which are endangered. Kelp holdfasts are anchored to marine rocks which slow down currents providing ideal environments for more delicate sea life. Thank you kelp!
We are still a small, family run company but we have big dreams of making our world a better place. We also believe that every bottle of concentrated plant care tonic steeped in thoughtful ingredients like kelp, is one tiny step closer to helping create that reality.
Thank you for your support!
wishing you an abundant growing season,
Karina and Team SE
