Highly rich in organic silica, horsetail has the unique ability to strengthen a plant's cellular wall—leading to stronger growth with sturdier stems and thicker leaves. Horsetail is also an antimicrobial which naturally fights off harmful diseases and infections. This incredible herb has been shown to build resistance against common fungal issues like powdery mildew and black spot, two fungal diseases commonly found in the garden on roses and squash plants and also on houseplants like begonias. How does silica work?
Silica plays a vital role in helping plants tolerate stress. It aids in correcting nutrient imbalances by redistributing minerals within leaf tissue and preventing toxic compounds from accumulating in the root system. It also strengthens plant structure by bonding with cellulose to create additional layers just beneath the leaf cuticle. This extra layer reduces water loss, balances hydration and nutrient uptake, plus it provides added defense against infection.
